"I called because he was acting suspicious," she said.
Olivia looked at her.
"My son lives in this neighborhood."
The woman paused.
Olivia turned toward the officers.
"Has he committed any crime?"
One officer hesitated.
"No, ma'am. We only received a report."
Olivia nodded.
"A report is not proof. Assuming someone is dangerous because of how they look is not acceptable."
The officers eventually allowed Jamal to leave.
But Olivia knew the situation was bigger than one afternoon.
