The Saturday morning sun was a brilliant, unyielding gold, piercing through the towering, seventy-story glass facade of Sterling Tower
. Inside, the grand lobby was a cathedral of modern commerce, bathed in a serene, almost holy light that illuminated the sprawling, vein-rich marble floors. Marcus Sterling, the visionary architect and CEO of the technological empire housed within these walls, stepped through the revolving doors. At 54, Marcus possessed a quiet, gravitational authority. Today, he opted for absolute comfort: a simple, well-worn gray hoodie, charcoal sweatpants, and a pair of limited-edition sneakers. Holding a thermal travel mug of black coffee in one hand and a digital tablet in the other, he was just a man heading to his personal sanctuary on the 42nd floor. He needed a few uninterrupted hours for a final code review ahead of a critical, billion-dollar software launch scheduled for Monday.

Suddenly, a voice shattered the silence. "Hey. You, hold it right there," Braddock's voice barked, echoing off the vaulted ceiling. Marcus paused, his thumb hovering over his tablet, his expression entirely unruffled. "Can I help you, Officer?" Marcus’s deep, resonant baritone filled the space. Braddock stepped out from behind the massive mahogany reception desk, his right hand falling instinctively to rest on his heavy duty belt, inches from his taser. "Step away from the gate!" Braddock shouted, moving swiftly to physically block the path, puffing out his chest to dominate the space. "The delivery entrance is around the back. Loading dock. Read the signs".

Marcus took a slow sip of his coffee, lowering the mug to face the officer squarely. "I’m not a delivery driver, and I have no need for the loading dock. I’m going up to the 42nd floor". Braddock scoffed, dragging his eyes up and down Marcus’s attire with visible disdain. "The 42nd floor is executive access only, pal. And let me tell you, you don’t look like an executive. Let’s try this again, and don't lie to me. Who are you here to see?". The tension in the lobby thickened, the air suddenly turning suffocatingly heavy as Braddock's fingers tapped rhythmically against his taser.

Marcus looked at the man standing between him and the elevators. The regular weekday security detail—a team of professionals who greeted Marcus by name and knew exactly how he liked his morning routine—had rotated out for the weekend shift. Braddock was a weekend sub, a contractor clearly eager to exercise what little power his badge afforded him. "I don't need to see anyone," Marcus said, keeping his tone measured. "I own this building. Now, please step aside."

Braddock let out a harsh, mocking laugh that bounced off the marble walls. "You own the building? Sure you do, buddy. And I'm the President of the United States." He took a step closer, invading Marcus's personal space, the smell of cheap cologne and stale coffee wafting from his uniform. "I know your type. You think you can just wander into a Class-A corporate high-rise looking like you just rolled out of a trap house and expect VIP treatment? Hand over your ID. Now."
