"What are you doing?" Karen hissed, dropping the hose. The water pooled around her expensive shoes. "You can't sell that! It's HOA property!" "Actually, Karen," I smiled, stepping closer. "Tyler listed it online three hours ago using his burner email. I know, because I’m the one who responded to the ad. I offered him ten grand in cash, and he agreed to meet the buyer at the abandoned strip mall off Route 9 at 8:00 PM." Karen’s eyes darted around the neighborhood, realizing we were drawing an audience. Several neighbors were peeking through their blinds. "You're bluffing," she spat, but her voice trembled. "I'm not," I replied. "And since I happen to know exactly who the 'buyer' really is, I thought you should know that Tyler isn't walking away from that parking lot tonight. He's walking into a federal sting." I turned and walked away, leaving her standing in a puddle of water, panic finally breaking through her arrogant facade. I knew she would immediately call Tyler to warn him, to tell him to abort the sale. But that was exactly what I wanted. I needed her to panic. I needed her to insert herself into the crime scene. At 7:30 PM, I parked my truck across the street from the dark, crumbling strip mall. I killed the headlights and waited. Ten minutes later, a beat-up box truck pulled into the parking lot. Tyler stepped out, looking nervous, constantly checking his phone. He walked to the back of the truck and lowered the ramp. Inside, gleaming under the broken streetlights, was my Yamaha. But a sleek black SUV pulled into the lot before the fake buyer could arrive. Karen jumped out, sprinting toward her son, screaming at him to pack it up and leave. She had taken the bait perfectly. I picked up my radio. "They're both here. Box them in."
