Chapter 1 — The Visitor They Thought Was Nobody
The entrance of the Sterling Estate was usually reserved for powerful people.
Located on the hills outside Los Angeles, the private mansion hosted some of the world’s wealthiest investors, celebrities, and business leaders. The property itself was considered a masterpiece, featuring rare materials, advanced technology, and architecture that had been copied by luxury developers around the world.
That afternoon, a quiet older Black man walked through the gates.
His name was Daniel Carter.
He was seventy-one years old, wearing a simple gray sweater, dark jeans, and old leather shoes. He carried a small notebook in his hand and moved slowly as he looked around the property.
To most people there, he looked like someone who had accidentally entered the wrong place.
The employees noticed him immediately.
A young assistant manager named Ethan walked toward him with a suspicious expression.
"Can I help you, sir?"
Daniel smiled.
"I’m here to see the house."
Ethan looked confused.
"The house?"
