Chapter 1 — The Customer Nobody Took Seriously
The luxury car showroom was known as one of the most exclusive dealerships in the city. Behind its giant glass walls stood rare vehicles worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, polished until they reflected the bright showroom lights.
Every day, wealthy customers walked through the entrance wearing designer suits, expensive watches, and carrying the confidence of people who were used to being respected.
That afternoon, a quiet older Black man entered the showroom.
His name was Marcus Williams.
He was in his early seventies, wearing a simple dark jacket, a plain shirt, and comfortable shoes. Unlike the other customers, he did not arrive with a group of assistants or step out of a luxury vehicle. He walked slowly, looking carefully at every car on display.
To Marcus, these machines were more than expensive products. They represented decades of innovation, creativity, and human achievement.
But the employees saw something different.
They saw an older Black man dressed simply.
And they immediately underestimated him.
A young salesman named Ryan noticed Marcus standing near a limited-edition sports car. Ryan adjusted his expensive tie and walked over with a forced smile.
"Sir, are you looking for something specific?"
Marcus smiled politely.
